Alex Masardo was awarded his PhD in 2008 from the University of Bath. His ESRC-funded work looked comparatively at how fathers manage shared residence in comparative perspective in the UK and France. He sits in the School of Education, Health and Science at the University of Gloucestershire UK, where he led the Early Years and Education subject community between 2017-2023. He has held posts at the Universities of Bath and Birmingham and Visiting and Honorary Fellowships at the ANU Centre for Social Research and Methods, Centre for the Analysis of Social Policy, Centre for the Study of Global Ethics and as an International Visiting Professor at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Indonesia. He has worked on funded research from the AHRC, HEA, SEDA, HEFCE and Erasmus; most notably developing and heading up the AHRC Network on Post Separation Families and Shared Residence 2010-2012. Alex teaches across a wide portfolio of UG and PG courses, supervises numerous doctoral students and carries out research at the nexus of family, childhood, education and policy. He has recently completed a British Council funded project on early childhood and inclusive education (2023-24) with colleagues in Indonesia and has been developing a programme of work around Virtual Exchange and Collaborative Online International Learning. Alex is a member of a number of Professional Societies, is a Fellow of Advanced HE, and has worked in editorial capacities for the Journal of European Social Policy, Social Policy and Society, Journal of Family Studies and Children Australia. Alex is co-chair of the scientific committee for the ICSP 7th International Conference on Shared Parenting.
